sheikh_ibrahim_el-zakzaky_pixIn reaction to the killings of the three children of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) Leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, and 35 of his followers, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has called for thorough investigation by military authorities.

El-Zakzaky’s biological children and followers were killed during a protest by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria over Israel’s aggression against the people of Gaza.

Atiku, who expressed his concern via his Twitter handle (@atiku), said he was “deeply disturbed”.

He tasked religious leaders on the need to preach calm and restrain their followers from taking laws into their hands.

“I am deeply disturbed by the fatal shooting of protesters in Zaria yesterday.

“I have always advocated restraint in dealing with dissidents be they political or religious.

“The incident needs to be thoroughly investigated by the authorities in order to restore calm and public trust in law enforcement,” his tweets read.

He further tweeted: “Our law enforcement agents must be careful to not alienate the people, who are partners in our search for peace and progress.

“It is also important that religious leaders preach calm and restrain their followers from activities which disturb the peace.”
