Announcing resumption is to turn the students and public against us – ASUU LAUTECH

The Western Regional Zonal coordinator, of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Ade Adejumo said in a chat with our correspondent that asking students to resume without sorting out the institution’s crisis was a way to turn the students and public against the union.

He said as opposed to the news that has been making rounds, the two state governments are yet to pay the six months salary arrears to the university and didn’t even meet with the unions before announcing resumption.

He pointed out that the unions would not be open to dialogue unless their agitations are taken care of. Their agitation, he said, are more than salaries. “We need a sustainable way to run the institution”

When asked the outcome of the meeting with the school’s governing council which was held on Monday, 18th of September, the unionist said, they have not gotten far from the beginning of the crisis and that the strike subsits until their prayers are answered by the government.

He added that the government should implement the suggestions as presented by the visitation panel led by Wole Olanipekun and not abandon the institution.
