On the streets of Twitter this Friday, Nigerians are expressing their opinions on a recent update concerning a remedy to the coronavirus that has shaken Nigeria and the world.

Three months ago, the federal government via the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC), okayed the arrival of COVID-Organics (COV), a herbal mixture from Madagascar. From the latest update, it was gathered that the Federal Government was awaiting a grant to enable them carry on with the research on the drug which appeared promising in curing COVID-19.

This announcement sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians who were interested in the news update:

It took 33 Years for Professor Hussain Ibrahim ,Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, RMRDC to research on Kilishi Production But it took them 3 months to tell us about the inefficacy of Madagascar Cure. Chai Nigeria no fit balance at all.

Yet Madagascar has less than 3000 cases with 24 deaths and over 1000 recoveries. If you want to destroy an African, get another African. The Europeans used the tactic to defeat us in battles and colonize us in our land. Africa stop! It's time to wake up

Although NAFDAC approved these drugs to be brought in for a study and possible use on Nigerians, it appears that the plan did not fall through as more and more Nigerians question the state of the research and the state of the COVID-Organics that were earlier shipped to the country.

After how many months? The government also says they are still conducting research to know how effective it is in COVID 19 treatment. There is more to this.

Another update by the Federal Government revealed that the drug is mainly for treating malaria which many pointed out was a known fact before the drugs arrived the country, as they compared it to Chloroquine that had been earlier reported as effective in treating the virus.

A few others reminded users how excited they were when it was first announced that the drug proved effective in treating the viral disease. While the government has shared these updates with the public, many have also expressed that there are some aspects of their update that doesn’t add up.
