The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, commenced the remodeling of Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi and Late Chief MKO Abiola statues into a new but bigger, better and more aesthetic sculpture of the two prominent Nigerians for better appreciation of their contribution to the development of Nigeria.

The State Acting Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinsola, who disclosed this at a recent meeting with civil society groups on why the old statutes were removed, explained the government has commissioned a group of artists to remodel the entire park and erect a new but bigger, better and more aesthetic sculpture of the two prominent Nigerians.

She informed that the family of Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, during a visit to the commissioned sculptor’s studio, lauded the State Government’s initiative to remodel the old statue of the foremost human-rights’ lawyer into a bigger larger-than-life size statue and acknowledged the semblance of the statue to the late icon.

According to her, “The family affirmed that the artwork indeed is a true image of Late Chief Fawehinmi and expressed their appreciation to the present administration for the initiative to enhance the immortalization of the respected human-rights crusader”.

Recall that the State Government has, in the last two years, embarked on urban regeneration and city-image enhancement projects with the completion of many and ongoing erections of 29 artistic sculptures and monuments at strategic locations across the State.
