An independent review panel led by an ex-Irish President, Mary Robinson, against the Africa Development Bank (AfDB), has exonerated President of the multilateral lender, Akinwunmi Adesina, of all charges.
It was in earlier in May that unidentified whistle-blowers accused the former Nigerian Agriculture minister of handing contracts to acquaintances and appointing relatives to strategic positions at the bank.
However, following the bank’s revive that exonerated him in the allegation of favoritism and nepotism in May, the US called for an independent probe and the results have also proved Akin Adesina to be upright in his dealings.

Following the report, conversations began to flood social media as many people shared their happiness that Adesina was cleared of the allegations. Others, however, debated the international ties with the African Development Bank; for many, the US who were championing the probe against Adeshina may have had other motives.
@akin_adesina has emerged a stronger person, with a hugely enhanced reputation. Mary Robinson is a highly respected global figure. Her panel’s exoneration of Adesina is a huge global endorsement. What was obviously a disappointment has turned out a blessing. Well deserved! https://t.co/Skn0bIVsro

@akin_adesina Proverbs 22:29, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” From glory to glory?

Very glad to hear that Dr. @akin_adesina, President of AfDB, was vindicated by an independent review commission led by the former president of Ireland.

How can African Development Bank @AfDB_Group give 20% equity to the USA? Yes we may have needed them then, but do we still do? 20% meddlesomeness is scary. That @realDonaldTrump could bring his insanity to destabilise our regional financial institution is scary

A few users also drew attention on the upcoming election at the AfDB which Adeshina has been reported for a rerun. They debated that all the drama that came with the probe could somehow be tied to those who may have been rooting for him to fail in the coming elections.
Alhamdullahi, that's good and reassuring not everything Nigeria is bad. Plenty good things and good people come out from Nigeria and Nigerians. I wish him success in his reelection bids

Congratulations Prof Akin Adesina for your triumph against US imperialism at the AfDB. They tried. They failed.

Thats is the kind of character and material Nigerians need to field as presidential candidates. Competence and integrity should be the measuring factor to avoid the issue of square peg in round hole.

A huge number of Twitter users, however, are celebrating this new development as a win for Nigerians, as the country’s identity as a people has been tainted in recent times.
