The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) asked President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately order the sack, arrest, and arraignment of Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun for alleged criminal forgery of her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.

As contained in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP said the Minister’s NYSC certificate scandal was a vindication of its position that the Buhari government is not as upright as it wants Nigerians and other citizens of the world to believe.

Meanwhile, authorities at the directorate have said that Adeosun did apply for an exemption certificate.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the NYSC Head of Press unit, Adeyemi Adenike, in Abuja, the NYSC affirmed that checking by its records, the Minister applied for an exemption certificate but that it was still investigating the origin of the alleged forged certificate that has been a source of controversy for days.


Adenike Khadijat Oluboyo, a.k.a ‘Princess Nikky,’ daughter of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Ondo, Alhaji Lasisi Olugbenga Oluboyo, was found dead and already decomposing at the Akure home of her boyfriend.

Confirming this, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ondo command, Femi Joseph told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), that the incident was not a rumour.

Adeyemi Alao, the suspected killer has since been arrested.

Joseph said the suspect has been cooperating with them on relevant information surrounding the circumstances of Khadijat’s death, assuring the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated to establish the facts and all other suspects and others involved in her death, would be prosecuted.


Governors of the South-East states have resolved to stop the movement of cattle in the zone, following increased challenges in the movement of herdsmen  and the resultant effect of clashes with farmers.

Chairman of the South East Governors forum, David Umahi of Ebonyi, who read the communique at the end of a meeting of the forum held at the Government House, Enugu, said they have requested for an emergency meeting in the zone with federal security chiefs, farmers and herdsmen to stop the movement and prevent possible spillage of herdsmen killings into the South-East zone.

The governors also restated their opposition to the proposed ranching in states, as they said the Federal Government was already aware that the South-East occupied little space of land and has no accommodation for ranching of any sort.


The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris deployed 30,000 police officers in Ekiti ahead of the governorship election scheduled to hold on Saturday (today).

As contained in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, the police boss has directed that a robust and elaborate security arrangement be implemented in Ekiti to ensure peaceful, credible, free and fair election.


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) entered into a new alliance with more than 30 other political parties in the country.

The parties who announced a new name – Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) at a meeting which held at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC) and mobilise support for consensus candidates at the states, and the legislative arm of government.


Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti accused policemen deployed in the state for Saturday’s (today) governorship election of harrassing him during the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) rally held in Ado Ekiti.

Fayose, who wore a neck brace after he was reportedly tear-gassed, narrated his ordeal to newsmen weeping and asked supporters of the party to remain resolute.

In reaction, the Police Command in Ekiti dismissed insinuations on social media that its men invaded the Government House on Wednesday.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Caleb Ikechukwu, said police officers were around the Prof. Olusola Eleka Pavilion at Fajuyi because two political parties intended to have their rallies at the same date and in Ado-Ekiti metropolis, against the advice of the Commissioner of Police who pointed the security implication.

He urged members of the public to consider the content of such posts as “misleading and aimed at causing anxiety in the minds of the public.”

However, the National Working Committee of the PDP led a protest march to the National Assembly against the alleged assault by men of the Nigeria Police on Fayose.

The protesters led by the party’s National Chairman, Uche Secondus were received by Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who demanded a free, fair and credible governorship election in Ekiti today.


President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the bill seeking to make the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) an autonomous body.

Presidential Adviser on National Assembly (Senate), Ita Enang who disclosed this while addressing State House correspondents in Abuja, said the NFIU would seize to exist as a department in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and would now be domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria as an autonomous and independent body.


President Muhammadu Buhari received the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa at the Presidential Villa Abuja.

After a closed-door meeting with Buhari, the South African leader who addressed  State House correspondents declared that the killing of Nigerians and other foreign nationals in the country was an act of criminality,  not specifically targeted at Nigerians.

Ramaphosa explained that the killings are caused by high level of unemployment among the youth as well as other social factors emanating from long apartheid misrule and the government is doing all best possible to bring it down.


Following the resumed trial of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, commercial activities were on Wednesday paralysed in Kaduna as shops, offices, banks and schools in the city centre were closed for fear of an outbreak of violence.

While armed security operatives took over major streets around the city, vehicular movements were restricted on roads leading to the court and commuters, pedestrians also were subjected to thorough screening.

The Kaduna High Court, however, adjourned the couple’s trial till August 2 as the trial judge, Justice Gideon Kurada, adjourned the matter to enable the prosecution serve the two other persons standing trial with the Shiites leader.


Two groups within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna loyal to Senators Shehu Sani and Othman Hunkuyi have announced their exit from the party.

A leader of one of the groups, Tom Maiyashi, who spoke to journalists in Kaduna said that the groups decided to leave the APC because the party has failed to meet up with the expectations of Nigerians who voted them into power, they however did not state the political party they will be joining.
