On September 21, 2018, the governor of Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode, through the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, directed the state Public Works Corporation to repair all the potholes on major and inner roads across the state within the next four weeks – yet, so many potholes across the state have still been left unattended.

However, in a statement on Thursday, the Commissioner for Transport, Ladi Lawanson said the government was working towards ensuring that this problem will become a thing of the past.

Lawanson said, “Workable solutions have been fashioned to ensure the free flow of traffic across the State, especially as the yuletide season approaches.

“The Lagos Government is aware of the hardship which has been occasioned by the gridlock we have in the Apapa area and other parts of the State, the State Executive Council has a solution in sight which would be implemented soon.

“We have come up with solutions that will ensure that there is a better flow of traffic especially as we enter the holiday season and Lagosians will start to see the effect of the work that we have done.”

He added, “Lagos State Government has recruited 1000 new LASTMA officials, they will be trained and before Christmas, they will resume work. They will work from 5 am to 12 midnight daily, while palliative measures on potholes continue.

“On the Apapa gridlock, the trailer park in Orile will be delivered very soon, and it will go a long way to address the issue of trailers parking along roads and bridges.

“The issue of the trailer park is in the front burner, we are sure that in a short while, the trailer park will help to cushion the effect of the standoff trailers along the bridges and other places.”
