The National Assembly has increased the 2017 budget by over N143bn.

The House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation on Tuesday had presented its report at the plenary.

The report indicated that the committee increased the budget.

Chairman of the committee, Rep. Mustapha Dawaki, said that the committee worked with other committees in the House to arrive at the new figure for the budget.

The report stated that N434.4bn is for statutory transfer, N1.84tn for debt servicing and N177.46bn is for sinking Fund for maturing bonds.

President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2016 had presented N7.298trn to a joint session of the National Assembly.

The raise now makes the new figure N7.441tn.

Saraki promised that the lawmakers would ensure the passage of the bill on Thursday.
