Funke Akindele will make her directorial debut in collaboration with EbonyLife Films, a political comedy titled Your Excellency and driven by social media. Akindele has been one of the industry’s tastemakers in accessible comedy, so much so that it literally sticks to her real persona. With her popular television series Jenifa’s Diary which introduced her into the mainstream, Akindele’s upcoming debut only puts her squarely into her preferred genre of filmmaking.

CEO of EbonyLife Mo Abudu enthused about the movie on Twitter, saying the studio is ”excited to have Akindele at the helm, directing her first feature.” The plot of Your Excellency tells the story of Chief Olalekan Ajadi, a bumbling, billionaire businessman and failed presidential candidate, who is obsessed with Donald Trump. Just when his campaign looks set to be another disaster, Ajadi is anointed by a major party and becomes a credible contender – all through the power of social media. As the political drama unfolds, it seems possible that even the most inept candidate, with little to offer voters except viral soundbites and amusing antics, can mount a serious challenge for presidency.
Your Excellency from EbonyLife Films is very on-brand, bombastic and bloated with a star ensemble the mould of Chief Daddy and The Wedding Party. It will be interesting to see how the movie pans out with Akindele at the helm, with a December 13 cinema release.

OK. OK. OK. I’d like to give up on this country now. Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Tunde Fowler in an interview with Premium Times stated that digital economy will be taxed with 5% in 2020. The digital economy is still a burgeoning space that includes finch startups an e-commerce platforms like Konga and Jumia. After pushing a cashless policy through the years, the government wants 5% on every online transaction done with cards. Mind you, the government hasn’t contributed to the growth of the digital economy. Brace yourselves, guys.

Aisha Yesufu still don’t get it
Popular activist Aisha Yesufu rehashed her homophobia on Twitter in response to a Sahara Reporter story on Monday, about an Islamic teacher jailed for having ”anal sex” with thirty-five boys. The headline is misleading and disingenuous as it terribly fails at naming the act for what it is – rape and paedophilia. There’s no point trying to make Yesufu see the errors of her thinking, but at this point her views – and with the kind of platform she has – dangerous.
