Big Brother Naija alum and actress Bamike Olawunmi aka BamBam was the latest celebrity guest on NdaniTV’s 37 Questions, and frankly the interview was seamless fun from the moment she walked into the clothing store and browsing through clothes. There’s a certain quirky charm to BamBam which I’m only just noticing, so quietly confident in herself as she breezes through the questions like the name of high school crush, how many countries she’s travelled to and her fashion style.

That said, the only bit of sourness in the interview was when she was asked about a life experience she would change if she had the power, for which she revealed that she was raped when she was younger and never told her family about it until later. Rape and sexual harassment has been a burning cultural topic for a month now, sparked by the fresh rape accusation against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo. It’s worth mentioning that this isn’t the first time BamBam has revealed that she was raped, and what this continues to show, at least seemingly, is that she isn’t bothered anymore by the stigma attached to her experience.

Many rape survivors are still unable to talk about their experience because of how it makes them feel – the unresolved trauma festering from the ordeal and what people would think of them. Lovely to see BamBam showing the strength that many wish they had, and being an inspiration in the process.

It’s the twist in that Big Brother promised, making a total of four new housemates including Elo and Venita that came in on Tuesday. The housemates have sort of disrupted the dynamic in the house, sparking conversations online and it will be interesting to see how they adapt.
