5 killed, 15 injured in Sallah day accident

At least five persons confirmed dead on Monday in an accident along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, according to The Nation.

15 other persons were injured in the accident that occurred at about 4pm, at Ogunmakin junction, near the Total gas station, when two vehicles, a Mazda bus marked KSF477XK and a Mitsubushi car with registration number MUS639DK collided.

The deceased were four males and one female.

The accident made vehicular movement on the expressway hellish, as it caused serious traffic gridlock.

It took the intervention of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officials in Ogun to evacuate the vehicles and normalise traffic flow.

Confirming the accident, the FRSC Sector Commander said 20 people were involved in the mishap.

He added that the injured were rushed to Ife-Oluwa Hospital and, Ibadan Centre Hospital.

He attributed the cause of the accident to wrongful overtaking, urging drivers to exercise patience.

“Divers are advised to be patient and avoid wrongful overtaking as they drive through construction areas,” he said.
