2 farmers arraigned in Benue for armed robbery

Two Benue State farmers have been remanded in prison on suspicion of armed robbery.

Aondoakura Ukor and Terwase Zakaa,who hail from Adikpo in Kwande Local Government Area of the state, were on Thursday arraigned for conspiracy and armed robbery before a magistrate court in Makurdi, the state capital.

The Prosecution reportedly told the Court that the case which was transferred from the Nigeria Police Divisional Headquarters, Kwande to state CID, Makurdi on August 23, indicated that one Michael Iorungwa and Terula Abuul had reported that some armed men numbering about eight attacked and robbed them of their valuables at gun point.

The court heard that the robbers had dispossessed the victims of N75,000, Nokia C3 valued N30,000, two Nokia 1200 valued N8,000 and a bush lamp valued N1,500.

Prosecution also disclosed that angry youths intercepted the robbery and arrested one Terfa Anongo whom they set ablaze on the spot while others escaped into a nearby bush.

The two accused were later apprehended.

At the mention of the case, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction. The Magistrate, Austin Ityoyiman, therefore adjourned the matter to September 24, 2013
